How to use Android Emergency Satellite Texting If the Signals are Down

Emergencies like hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and heavy rainfalls often hit so hard that network connections are disrupted badly. It becomes quite impossible to contact anyone. Owing to this, Google introduced a specific Android emergency satellite texting allowing you to contact your emergency numbers without using any network. It is currently available only on Pixel phones. Here‘s how to send a satellite text with Google Pixel. 

Limitations to the Android emergency texting:

Only a few Pixel phones are equipped with this feature: the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. if you have these phones, you need to have Google Messages as your default messaging app to text via satellite. Additionally, this facility is currently available in the US only, except in Alaska and Hawaii.

How to access Android emergency satellite texting with Pixel:

After affirming the prerequisites mentioned above, follow the given guide to access this life-saving feature. 

1. Confirm that Google Messages is the default texting app. In case you change the default setting, you’ll be notified that you won’t be able to access Satellite eSOS.

2. Dial 911 and if you don’t have any network you will immediately find an option of “Satellite SOS”. Tap it. Now click on “Use Satellite SOS’’ and then “Start”. 

3. Answer the emergency queries correctly. 

4. After this, you will find an option to Notify your emergency contacts. If you don’t want to share your location and emergency information with them, tap Don’t Notify.

5. Now follow the given prompts to connect to the satellite. The best results depend on several factors including a clear view of the sky, site location, etc. 

As soon as you’re connected to the emergency satellite, the service provider will reply to you via text. Try staying under the open sky for a quick connection. If you want to end the satellite text conversation, tap on End and again follow the prompts. This feature only allows contact emergency satellites, you can’t use it for other phone contacts. As mentioned previously, Android emergency satellite texting is only available in Pixel phones but Android 12 and 13 have an Emergency SOS. Let’s learn about it.

What is Android Emergency SOS and How it works?

Android 12 and 13 have an option “Emergency SOS” in the Settings app. It turns on by default and helps you seek emergency help. It works conditionally on Wi-Fi or cellular data. On pressing the power button for five minutes, your phone will immediately dial 911 and send a message with your location to the provided contacts. It also records the video. Once you access the Settings to use this feature, the actual process will start. You might have a few seconds to stop it.
